Montreal and Quebec City, QC

P.S: When you rent a car check then and there whether the GPS system is working or not. You are not some genius like me, to drive all the way to Montreal with out GPS from Toronto. That damn thing didn’t work at all, on the way to Montreal:((.

Montreal :

Toronto to Montreal is a 5hr drive, including a break at Tim Horton’s, near Kingston. Started at 4′ish [’ish - stands for "around/like" in Canada] in the morning and reached around 9′ish. Met my friends and had some Coffee and began the day.

Destination was Olympic Tower, Bio Dome and Botanical Gardens [Yes!! You guessed right, I never even had the thought of getting into Botanical Gardens].

BioDome was awesome. Its a completely closed structure. From outside, its just a regular building with different structure, but inside an amazing little world awaits you, with beautiful creatures and plants (everything inside that small building [Should I say, little world ??]). It was amazing. After entering the biodome, it felt like, I was in a beautiful valley filled with many wonders of the mother nature [best part no pollution]. It was no more just a building full of birds or plants for me. Its worth a ton, to visit.

Olympic Tower, well know for its stylish structure. It was good. But the Panoramic view of Montreal from the top was simply beautiful. I felt for one second, to settle down in Montreal forever. The city was built, well planned.

From there we moved to Old City. There we saw Nostradamus church and then we roamed around the old city. I felt like I was roaming in Europe again. After a while we found ourselves in a garden with a panoramic view of the young and growing city. We had a photo session there, then, we went back into the old city for a bite. Back to Tim-Hortons [same medium sized French-Vanilla and a Roasted cheese bagel, I don’t know!!, am not vexed with this order, yet.]. Then we moved towards the lake side, it was freezing like hell, -5C was not bearable with my long coat and a muffler. But, it was worth.

We then, drove to a mountain top to see the beautiful Montreal in the maroon light of setting sun. Well, we missed that by 5 min, may be, but Montreal in night with its own sources of light, was not bad either.. ha ha .. well it was great. But we missed the other part. Actually, from that mountain top we can see Montreal in 360 deg. But we didn’t find that spot. You can try to go there and find the other spot.

On the way back to my friend’s place, met some acquaintances, bid my adieu and went for dinner at an Indian restaurant. Prakash was planning for the Quebec City Iteninary, while we retired for bed.

Quebec City :

Woke up at 6 AM in the morning, that was the first and the last time, I woke up so early in the morning. Temp was -5C. We got ready and left for Tim-Hortons [Yes !! You guess right, its the same order again ! ]. First we got the GPS thing right, ultimately it worked :) . Its a three hour drive, its good that my friend took the job of driving for the rest of the day. I had a small nap on the way. Quebec is a very beautiful place. We reached Quebec by 12ish.

Destination was the water falls. It was awesome. I climbed up to the falls and climbed down to the bottom of the falls, where everything was frozen. The water was very cold. It was fun climbing down, but really a pain in the a** while climbing up. There were around 300 steps, of which, last 100 were covered with ice. It was slippery and very tough to maintain our balance, but it was worth going down to the bottom.

Then we went to subway for lunch. P.S In Quebec City mostly, they speak only French. Not even single person there in subway understood us. In the end, we got what we wanted by pointing our fingures at the menu, like kids pointing at a burger, when her/his parents asked for what she/he want to eat. Never even think of trying to drink PEPSI ZERO or DIET PEPSI, am not sure which one was it, but it was horrible.

We then went to the Ferry place, where ferries transport people from Quebec City to the Island next to it, every ten minutes. Just in front of that place is the old city and some nice panoramic view points etc., We went to the old city to see a church and some building, completely painted with a scene from a market place. It was nice, I saw something painted like that on the whole building. We moved to the scenic points. Quebec City and the river looked so fabulous, during sun set. We then walked around the old streets of the Petit Champlain in Quebec City. We walked further to see the beautiful Frontenac Chateau. We also enjoyed the ferry to Lévis for beautiful views of the Chateau Frontenac and the Lower Old Town. We got some awesome pictures of the Quebec City at night.

We said good bye to such a wonderful place, having a thought, to come back and visit again. Mahesh took us back to Montreal and then after a small chat, me and Pankaj left for Toronto [5-30 Hrs with one break after Kingston at Mc. Donald’s] and reached at 1AM. Dropped him at Holiday Inn and myself at Del Suites, Scarborough, Toronto.

P.S A three day trip to Montreal and Quebec City will be Awesome and worth. Well, do post me if you are planning to visit there :) , I have some tips to help.

Peace out, signing off,
